Antennas

X-Band Antenna

The X-Band Antenna is a TeraScan© 4.5-Meter (18-ft.) Polar Satellite Tracking Antenna for reception from polar-orbiting satellites that broadcast data in the X-band range, specifically the NASA EOS satellites Terra-1 and Aqua-1.
CREATE receives data from the MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) sensor aboard these satellites.

L-Band Antenna

The L-Band Antenna is a TeraScan© 1.5-Meter Polar Satellite Tracking Antenna for reception from polar-orbiting satellites in the L-band range, specifically NOAA TIROS-N satellites and ORBView-2.

Aquisition Systems

Antenna Recievers

Receivers control the antennas and translate the X and L Band transmissions.

Aquisition Workstations

There are two acquisition systems, one for each antenna for downloading and temporarily storing satellite data. The raw data are sent via the University's network backbone to the Processing Cluster on Main Camput. These systems have 30 days storage capacity should there be a network failure.

Processing Station and Lab
Processing Cluster
The main processing system for CREATE Data consists of a 5-Node Linux Cluster, running TeraScan© Direct-Broadcast processing software. Integrated to the processing cluster is a robust storage system totaling over 15 Terabytes of on-line storage.

3 NAS Drives = 15 Terabytes Storage

Data received from the Antenna Aquisition Systems is processed here. Raw data from MODIS and NOAA satellites are processed into usable imagery and data products, then stored for archival purposes and analysis.

CREATE Remote Sensing Lab

Research and further processing of remote sensing data occurs in the CREATE Lab. Here, researchers and students integrate the Direct-Broadcast imagery and data within their research projects.
