The CREATE Ground Station Installation

INSTALLATION    

These are pictures from the installation of the CREATE antennas and receiving station. CREATE installed two antennas in June 2004, one 4.5m X-Band antenna and one 1.5m L-Band antenna and a receiving station at the UNM Science and Technology Park. With the help of SeaSpace enginners, CREATE Center staff and students, UNM Physical Plant and US Electric, the antenna platform and antenna parts were lifted to the roof via a hydraulic crane. Cables were pulled, the acquisition computer system installed, and the system was completed within a record time of one week.

Each of the antennas are housed within a fiberglass radome (for weather protection) and are mounted on steel platforms to the roof of 801 University, where they have an exceptional view of the sky and passing satellites.
